How to Take Care of Your BeauGen Breast Pump Cushions
Proper Breast Pump Cushion Care Instructions from BeauGen
In this post, we’ll provide helpful instructions for washing your cushions and when to consider replacing them. You can read the post or follow along with the instructions from our Founder and CEO, Tu-Hien Le in the video below.
How to Care for Your Cushions
Caring for your BeauGen Breast Pump Cushions is as easy as using the cushions themselves. Gently remove your cushion from your pump. Then hand wash the cushions with warm soapy water.
Use a gentle soap such as dish soaps or bottle soaps that won’t break down the soft stretchy material of the cushion. Air dry your cushions by setting them on the counter in their cone shape. This will help maintain their shape for your next pumping session.
We recommend that you do not sterilize your cushions.
Due to their soft and stretchy nature, the harsh heat and cleansers used in sterilization will cause the material of the cushions to break down at a much faster rate. This means that you will be able to pump with them for a shorter period of time and need to replace them at a much faster rate.
For these same reasons, we also do not recommend soaking or washing them in hot water or putting the cushions in your dishwasher.
When to Care for Them
The general rule for when to care for your breast pump cushions is whenever you’re already cleaning your breast pump flanges. Some moms find that storing their pump parts in the fridge in between pumping sessions help them go longer in between cleaning everything.
Your breast pump cushions can be included in this storage. Storing these parts in a sealed bag in the refrigerator can help get you through the day without cleaning everything after each pumping session, which is beneficial for busy moms.

If you see signs of wear and tear
When washing your cushions, you might sometimes notice a difference in the thickness of the cushion, or spot a tear. This means that it's time to replace your cushions. Cushions are designed to last about 30 days depending on your frequency of use and length of pumping sessions.

Katie, you can most definitely use coconut oil with BeauGen Cushions. We would not recommend using anything other than gentle soap and water. If the oil doesn’t feel like it’s coming off in one wash, you can try soaking them or gently massaging the cushions with soap to wash off the coconut oil. As long as you wash them, and air dry them they should be safe to use for your next session ~ BeauGen Moms
Is it okay to use coconut oil with the cushions? I find they stick to me and can be uncomfortable to remove after pumping if I don’t use the oil. I do find it very difficult to wash the cushions however. The oil remains after washing the cushions with warm soapy (bottle soap) water. Any suggestions? Thank you:)
